The Salem Division of Southern Railway celebrated the 74th Republic Day today (26.01.2023) at the Divisional Railway Manager’s Office, Salem. Shri A. Gautam Srinivas, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division unfurled the National Flag in the presence of Shri P. Sivalingam, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division and Shri K.V. Rathish Babu, Assistant Security Commissioner, Salem Division and other officers and staff of Salem Division. After unfurling the National Flag, the Divisional Railway Manager inspected the parade contingents of the Railway Protection Force. This was followed by a March Past by the Parade Contingents. While addressing the gathering, the Divisional Railway Manager stated that each year 26th January is a day of national pride as India comes together to celebrate Republic Day. A Republic is its people, who are its ultimate stakeholders and in fact pillars. Each one of us is a pillar of the Republic. This is an occasion to reaffirm our faith in the Constitution of India as the Constitution is the Soul of our Country. He said that Indian Railways plays its part as a great integrating force – integrating the people, the diverse cultures and the economy of the Nation. The Divisional Railway Manager reminded the gathering that each one has a role to play in the promise and future of Indian Railways and thereby in the future of India. The Divisional Railway Manager said that it is a privilege to be leading the youngest Division of Southern Railway and one of the best performing Divisions of Indian Railways. He briefly outlined the various performance highlights of Salem Division. With Pleasure and Immense Satisfaction, the Divisional Railway Manager listed out some of the important achievements during the year. • Safety is of paramount importance. Due to the alertness of the staff and their constant vigil, the Division has achieved Zero Consequential Accidents. • Salem Division has the distinction of running the first ever theme based Bharat Gaurav train. 6 trips have been run so far generating a revenue of Rs.4.3 cr. • Salem Division crossed 3 million tonnes of freight loading for the first time in its history and achieved its best ever loading performance of 3.269 million tonnes in 2021-22. This year, 2.3 million tonnes have been loaded already and the Division is on the path to loading more than 3 million tonnes this year too. • Salem Division registered the highest ever Freight Earnings of Rs.274.33 cr. during 2021-22 which is 18.98% more than the previous year. • The total earnings of Salem Division during 2022-23 is Rs.778 cr. which is 53.8% higher than last year. Passenger revenue is 87% higher, Parcel revenue is 12% higher, ticket checking revenue is 69% higher this year compared to the corresponding period of last year. This indicates a very robust growth in all segments. • Highest ever loading of 77 Petroleum Oil rakes was achieved in December, 2022 from Irugur BPCL siding which is designed for loading only 2 rakes per day. • The Division’s commitment to Punctuality is reflected in achieving 94% Punctuality against a target of 85%. The best ever Punctuality Performance of Salem Division – 97.5% – was achieved in May, 2022. • Sectional Speed in Salem – Vriddhachalam and Coimbatore North – Mettupalayam sections has been increased. Various Passenger Amenities have been commissioned. • An escalator at Tiruppur railway station and 2 Lifts at Morappur Railway Station. • Modern and Aesthetically Designed Platform Shelter on Platform No.5 of Salem Jn. Railway Station. Renovation of the subway connecting the platforms at Salem Jn railway station. • Foot Over Bridges at Doddampatti and Danishpet rail stations. • For the convenience of passengers, Coach Indication Boards have been provided at Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore Jn, Karur and Morappur rail stations. • Battery operated car service has been made available at Salem, Erode, Coimbatore and Mettupalayam railway stations. • Raising and Extension of Platforms in Salem – Vriddhachalam and Erode – Tiruchchirappalli sections. Strengthening Infrastructure • Additional Loop Line and a platform have been provided at Tirupattur railway station. • 3 RUBs have been constructed. • Salem Yard has been modified to facilitate smoother train movements. RPF – Ensuring the Safety & Security of Passengers • RPF personnel have saved the life of 11 passengers. • They have rescued 398 runaway children. • RPF staff has recovered stolen properties worth Rs.16 lakhs. • 59 criminals and 75 unauthorised travel agents have been arrested by RPF. • They have nabbed contraband, illicit goods, unaccounted cash, etc. • RPF personnel regularly conducted safety drives / awareness programmes to prevent mishaps. Moreover, the Division has reaffirmed its commitment to Green Energy by commissioning Roof Top Solar Plants thereby saving electricity. The Divisional Railway Manager exuded confidence that, with the talented and committed team of Officers, Supervisors & Staff, Salem Division will be able to reach greater heights in times to come.
